Ram Gopal Verma's made another film (sort of).
He released the trailer earlier today on his official YouTube channel (which is a thing by the way). It's called Beautiful – An Ode To Rangeela, though none of the film's credits are in RGV's name aside from the endplate of the trailer which says 'A Ram Gopal Varma Dream'.
The film is 'written, photographed and directed' by Agastya Manju.
The trailer (which is titled Beautiful Movie Trailer) opens with multiple kissing shots of a couple in love (newcomers Parth Suri and Naina Ganguly) who seem to spend most of their time on a beach. To the extent that the majority of the trailer is is made up of shots of passionate lip-locking along with chilling and dancing on a beach on loop. Rinse and repeat.
At the 1:44 mark is when the big twist comes through. 'They were poor and madly in love..just one thing went wrong…she became rich', we are told, followed by footage of the girl's newfound wealth which leads to a strained relationship between the two. While it doesn't exactly work, you have to admire the ambition of putting together a 3-minute trailer with no dialogue, relying on visuals and music alone.
'Money is not always beautiful' – it closes. As to why make this film that's an ode to another of his films or what the artistic intent is, Varma has an answer. The filmmaker tweeted the following along with the trailer release earlier today:
The film's release date is yet to be announced. You can watch the trailer below:
