Movie Details of Kabhi Kabhie
Music: Khayyam
Lyrics: Sahir Ludhianvi
Label: Saregama HMV
Director: Yash Chopra
The 1976 romantic drama saw Yash Chopra work with composer Khayyam for the first time. The huge success of the album led Chopra to work with Khayyam on his next directorial venture Trishul and the 1979 movie Noorie that he produced. Of course, Kabhi Kabhie was more a victory due to Sahir Ludhianvi than Khayyam – the soundtrack saw some exceptional poetry from the veteran, the highlight being the legendary title song that appeared in multiple versions in the movie (and after the movie).
Best Song of Kabhi Kabhie: This would be the title song without a doubt. A modified version of the poem that first appeared in Ludhianvi's Talkhiyan, Kabhi Kabhie was treated by Khayyam with a simple yet fabulous melody. And I find the track delivered best in Mukesh's earnest voice.
On a related note: This video has a recital of the original Kabhi Kabhi by Sahir Ludhianvi himself.
