On the surface Prosit Roy's Pari is a love story of a witch and a human, but it is in fact a love story of two misfits. Anushka Sharma (who also produced the film) plays the feral, abused Rukhsana and Parambrata Chatterjee plays Arnab, an introverted young man from Kolkata. Weaving in a historical fiction sub-plot of a sinister cult of witchdoctors in Bangladesh that has roots in the bloody war, and featuring a devil who cannot be seen but heard, Pari is a welcome step in the right direction for horror in Hindi cinema. Roy and Abhishek Banerjee have written the screenplay; dialogues are by Anvita Dutt Guptan.
