The Family Man Season 2 Is Delayed. 5 Thrillers You Can Stream Instead

Since creators Raj and DK have confirmed that season 2 of The Family Man is delayed to summer 2021, here's a list of five thrillers you can watch in the meantime

Sahir Avik D'souza

The first season of The Family Man premiered on Amazon Prime Video in September 2019. The thriller series starred Manoj Bajpayee as the eponymous middle-class man who has a secret life as an intelligence agent. Season 2 was announced in November 2019. Most of the cast, including Bajpayee, Gul Panag, Priyamani and Shreya Dhanwanthary, returned; they were joined by Samantha Akkineni, marking her first major Hindi role. Originally announced to be released in February this year, creators Raj and DK have now confirmed that the new season is delayed to summer 2021. But if you're in the mood for a thriller, here are some others that you can watch in the meantime.

Hanna

Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video

Based on Joe Wright's 2011 Saoirse Ronan-starrer, this series follows Hanna, a teenage girl born as part of a CIA project to create 'super-soldiers'. She's raised in the forests of Poland by Erik, a man who falls in love with her mother and rescues her from the CIA. Now, the agency wants her dead.

An Evening in Paris

Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video, YouTube

Shakti Samanta's 1967 An Evening in Paris is less spy thriller, more lavish romance-thriller. Sharmila Tagore plays Deepa, a rich young woman who flies to Paris to find love and meets the Indian-born Sam (Shammi Kapoor). Their romance forms the better part of the film, but there is also a subplot involving a kidnapping, multiple double-crossings, an orange-haired Pran, and the naughty nightclub dancer Suzy (also Tagore, in a double role), who happens to look exactly like Deepa. Parts of the film play out in Switzerland and Beirut, while the climax takes place at the Niagara Falls in a high-tech villain's den. All of this is interspersed with gorgeous songs by Shankar-Jaikishen and Shailendra.

Infernal Affairs

Streaming on: Netflix

Infernal Affairs tells the story of two men, both working undercover as moles in rival organisations. One is a police officer who goes undercover in a triad (a Chinese gangster organisation); the other is a triad member who infiltrates the police force. They both spend many years in their respective roles, their lives mirroring each other. Infernal Affairs was Hong Kong's entry for the foreign language Oscar, but wasn't nominated. However, Martin Scorsese's 2006 remake, The Departed, won four Oscars, including Best Picture, Director and Adapted Screenplay.

Thiruda Thiruda

Streaming on: Amazon Prime Video, Mubi

Mani Ratnam's caper film follows an inspector (SP Balasubrahmanyam) who has to track down a large sum of stolen money. Two thieves, Azhagu and Kadhir, become involved, as well as a singer, a young woman and several others. This was Mani Ratnam's second film with AR Rahman, who produced an unusual and thumping soundtrack, worlds away from their first collaboration, Roja.

No Country for Old Men

Streaming on: Netflix

Directors Joel and Ethan Coen jointly won the Oscar for Best Director in 2008 for No Country for Old Men, which also won Best Picture. Based on Cormac McCarthy's novel of the same name, the film revolves around a hunter, Llewelyn Moss (Josh Brolin), who stumbles on two million dollars, which he decides to keep for himself. This puts two men on his trail: the cold-blooded killer Anton Chigurh (Javier Bardem in an Oscar-winning performance) and the sheriff Ed Tom Bell (Tommy Lee Jones). The Coens combined the Western and the crime thriller into a widely acclaimed film, with critic AO Scott describing its technical finesse as "pure heaven".
