Jailer (Tamil)

When: August 10

Jailer narrates the story of prison guard Muthuvel Pandian, who gets embroiled in the world of crime and has to fight the dark side to save his family. Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar (of Doctor (2021) fame) stars Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, Mohanlal, Shivraj Kumar, Jackie Shroff, Tammanah Bhatia and Vinayakan.

Munna (Malayalam)

When: August 10

Munna is an indie production featuring a roster of veteran actors like Indrans, Jagadeesh, and Hareesh Peradi and newcomers like Mridula, and Sibu. Munna falls in love with a local girl. But this creates an atmosphere of friction in the low-key lives of his village as stories of personal vendettas and mysteries unravel.

Jailer (Malayalam)

When: August 10

Malayalam cinema’s Jailer (2023), based on a real-life incident, deals with a jailer who decides to do a series of real-time tests with a bunch of criminals under his custody. Directed by debutant Sakkir Madathil, the film features Dhyan Sreenivasan, Manoj K Jayan, Jayaprakash and Divya Pillai.

Gran Turismo (English)

When: August 10

When a player wins a series of Nissan Sponsored video game competitions, he becomes a real-life professional race car driver. Directed by Neil Blomkamp of Demonic ( 2021) fame, the film stars David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, Archie Madekwe and Darren Barnet.

Bhola Shankar (Telugu)

When: August 11

This is an official remake of the blockbuster Tamil language action film Vedalam (2015) which starred Ajith Kumar in the lead. The Telugu language iteration will feature Chiranjeevi, Keerthy Suresh and Tammanh Bhatia. Directed by Meher Ramesh, the film narrates the story of a man with a mysterious past who is working undercover to protect his sister from a crime syndicate.

Ustaad (Telugu)

When: August 12

This coming-of-age drama deals with the trials and tribulations of a trainee pilot. Directed by Phanideep, the film stars newcomers Sri Simha Koduri and Kavya Kalyanram along with Gautham Vasudev Menon and Anu Haasan.

Gadar 2 (Hindi) 

When: August 11

The sequel to the romantic period film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha (2001) continues the story of Tara Singh from the original, who travels back to a war-ridden Pakistan in 1971 to save his son. The film directed by Anil Sharma will have Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel and Utkarsh Sharma reprising their roles and features new characters played by Manish Wadhwa and Gaurav Chopra.

OMG 2 (Hindi)

When: August 11

What would happen when an ordinary man decides to take the whole education system of India to court? The second instalment of OMG (2012) is directed by Amit Rai and features Akshay Kumar, Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautham in the lead roles.

Kunjamminis Hospital (Malayalam)

When: August 11

A group of commoners rebuild a haunted hospital building but soon start experiencing paranormal activities. Directed by debutant Sanal Devan, the horror comedy features Prakash Raj, Indrajith Sukumaran, Nyla Usha, Harisree Ashokan, and Sarayu.

Samara (Malayalam, Tamil)

When: August 11

This crime procedural involves an army doctor, who is forced to embark on a journey to find his missing daughter, after a series of mysterious events. Directed by debutant Charles Joseph, the multilingual film features Binoj Villya, Rahman, Bharath Srinivasan, and Sanjana Dipu.

Jaladhara Pumpset Since 1962 (Malayalam)

When: August 11

When her water pump set goes missing, a teacher takes the matter into her own hands, finds the culprit and hands him over to the cops. But a comedy of errors ensues when the stolen item goes missing again. Inspired by real incidents, the film directed by Ashish Chinnappa stars Urvashi, Indrans, Vijayaraghavan, Sanusha and Johny Anthony.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter (English)

When: August 11

An adaptation of The Captain's Log, a chapter from the 1897 Bram Stoker novel Dracula, this adventure film traces the lives of people travelling by a merchant ship. The supernatural movie is being helmed by André Øvredal and stars Corey Hawkins, Aisling Franciosi, Liam Cunningham and David Dastmalchian in the lead.

Medusa Deluxe (English)

When: August 11

What if an Agatha Christie-esque murder mystery unfolds during a hairdressing competition and one of the participants is the culprit? Add some long-held emotional turmoil and intergroup dynamic to the mix and we get the new indie outing from director Thomas Hardiman with a talented cast of Luke Pasqualino, Lilit Lesser and Clare Perkins. 

Byomkesh O Durgo Rahasya (Bengali)

When: August 11

This modern-day iteration of the iconic Byomkesh Bakshi saga captures the story behind a murder investigation linked to a series of strange occurrences happening in an ancient palace. Directed by Birsa Dasgupta, who helmed Psycho (2021), the fantasy thriller stars Dev, Rukmini Maitra and Santhilal Mukherjee.

Cheeni 2 ( Bengali)

When: August 11

Two women decide to change their lives and embark on a journey of self-discovery and independence. Directed by Mainak Bhaumik (of Bibaho Diaries (2017) fame), the film stars Madhumita Sarcar, Anirban Chakrabarti and Soumya Mukherjee.
