Jailer gets a release date (Tamil)

The makers of the Rajinikanth starrer Jailer announced the release date of the film. The action entertainer is all set to release on August 10 this year. Written and directed by Nelson, the film sees the Superstar play Muthuvel Pandian. The announcement came with a short teaser which showed glimpses of the rest of the cast.

Apart from Rajinikanth, the film also stars Shivarajkumar, Tamannaah, Ramya Krishnan, Vasanth Ravi, Jackie Shroff, Sunil, Yogi Babu and Mohanlal in a cameo appearance. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music, collaborating with Nelson for the fourth time, and Vijay Karthik Kannan has cranked the camera. Kalanithi Maran is backing the film under the Sun Pictures Banner.

Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir to release on this date (Tamil)

The long-delayed Vijay Sethupathi starrer Yaadhum Oore Yaavarum Kelir finally gets a release date. After missing many release dates, the action drama is all set to release on May 19th. The film is directed by Venkatesh Krishna Roghanth and also stars Megha Akash, Vidya Pradeep, Magizh Thirumeni and Mohana Raja. It also stars late actor Vivek. The film is being released by Sakthi Film Factory.

Sivakarthikeyan’s SK21 begins shoot (Tamil)

The makers of the Sivakarthikeyan starrer recently released a video of the puja ceremony, announcing the commencement of shoot. Tentatively titled SK21, the film is written and directed by Rajkumar Periyasamy of Rangoon fame. The film will be produced by Mahendran under the Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) banner, along with Sony Pictures International Productions.

Lead actors Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi attended the ceremony, along with director Rajkumar Periysamy and music director GV Prakash Kumar. Kamal Hassan, who founded RKFI and is presenting the film, also attended the ceremony and sounded the first clap.

GV Prakash Kumar-Aishwarya Rajesh starrer gets a title (Tamil)

GV Prakash Kumar and Aishwarya Rajesh are all set to star in a romantic comedy. The makers recently announced the title along with a motion poster hinting at the genre of the film. Titled DeAr, the name is an amalgamation of the characters’ names. Aishwarya Rajesh plays the character of Deepika while GV Prakash Kumar plays Arjun.

The romantic comedy is written and directed by Anand Ravichandran of Sethum Ayiram Pon fame and also stars Thalaivasal Vijay, Kaali Venkat, Rohini, Ilavarasu and Geeta Kailasam. It is produced by Varun Tripuaneni, Abhishek Ramisetty and G Pruthviraj. GV Prakash Kumar himself has scored the music while Jagadeesh Sundaramurthy has handled the cinematography.

Mari Selvaraj’s Maamannan gets a first look (Tamil)

The makers of the Udhayanidhi Stalin starrer Maamannan recently released the first look poster of the film. The poster features the leads Udhayanidhi Stalin, Vadivel and Fahadh Faasil. The film is all set to show a new avatar of Vadivel, with the posters hinting at his role being a possible antagonist. 

Written and directed by Mari Selvaraj, the film is set to be the last film of Udhayanidhi Stalin before he takes up his position as a minister. Produced by Stalin through his banner Red Giant Movies, the film also stars Keerthy Suresh in a pivotal role and has music by AR Rahman.

777 Charlie gets selected at the Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival (Kannada)

Last year’s adventure drama 777 Charlie adds another feather in its cap after its dream run at the box office and nationwide recognition. The Rakshit Shetty starrer has been officially selected to be screened at the 13th Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival, which is to take place in Delhi. Director Kiranraj K is also set to receive the Best Director award for the drama.

777 Charlie follows the story of Dharma and a stray dog, Charlie which he adopts and then goes on an adventure with to fulfil Charlie’s dream of playing in snow. The film is also written by Kiranraj K and is produced by Rakshit Shetty under his Paramvah Studios banner. It features Sangeetha Sringeri and Raj B Shetty, with Nobin Paul and Aravind Kashyap serving as the music director and cinematographer respectively.

Further, actress Suma Devi won the best actress award at the Dada Saheb Phalke International Film Festival for her performance in 'The Secret of Women'.

Likhith Kumar’s survival thriller to be headlined by newbie Maahir (Kannada)

The makers of filmmaker Likith Kumar’s debut directorial recently revealed the lead actor of the film. The yet-to-be titled film is set to star newcomer Maahir Mohiuddin as well as Chaithra J Achar (of Saptha Sagaradaache Ello fame). Maahir, a theatre artist, plays the role of Sidharth in the film which is said to be a survival thriller. The film also stars Srinivas Prabhu, Master Anurag and Shashikala. Produced by T Shiva Kumar under the Lakshay Art banner, the film has music by Midun Mukundan of Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana fame, while Gowtham has handled the cinematography.

Nivedita Shivarajkumar starts her own production house (Kannada)

The daughter of Dr. Shivarajkumar, Nivedita Shivarajkumar, is the newest entrant from the Rajkumar family to step into the film industry. Nivedita is all set to start her own production house, naming it Shri Mutthu Cine Services. The production house will be producing their first feature film with debitant Vamsi Krishna, who will be directing as well as starring in the project. The yet-to-be-titled film is set to feature music by Charan Raj while Abhilash Kalahathi will be handling the cinematography.

While Nivedita has produced serials and three web series before, this will be her first foray into feature films. She is hoping for the production house to be a platform for newcomers and current themes. She wants to focus on content oriented cinema with technical excellence and currently does not want to focus on commercial or mainstream films.

Vijay Deverakonda launches his next project (Telugu)

Vijay Deverakonda’s first collaboration with director Goutham Tinnanuri of Jersey fame, was launched recently with a formal puja ceremony. The film, tentatively titled VD12 also stars Sree Leela.

Backed by Sithara Entertainment and Fortune Four Cinemas, the film features Anirudh Ravichander as the music director, Girish Gangadharan as the cinematographer and Naveen Nooli as the editor. Nooli and director Goutham had previously worked together on Jersey and had won the national award for the same.

Arjun Janya announces his directorial debut with 45 (Kannada)

Ace music director Arjun Janya, who is known for his chartbusters Mungaru Male 2 and Bhajarangi is all set to don the director’s hat for the first time. The action entertainer is titled 45 and features a star studded cast which includes Dr. Shivarajkumar, Upendra and Rj B Shetty. While plot details are yet to be revealed, the film officially went on floors recently in Mysore.

The film is said to be a philosophical action movie, which Arjun Janya is writing himself, while also composing the music. Produced by Ramesh Reddy under the Suraj Productions banner, the film will see Satya Hegde handle the cinematography while M Prakash will be handling the editing.

Kichcha Sudeepa starrer to launch on June 1 (Kannada)

Post the successful run of the adventure-thriller film Vikrant Rona, Kichcha Sudeepa had announced the lineup of his next three films. He recently announced on his social media handle that the teaser for one of the films will be filmed on May 22nd and that the film will be launched on June 1st.

There is no confirmation on which of the three films will go on floors first. One of them will be a film with Vikrant Rona director Anup Bhandari, which has been titled Billa Ranga Basha. Other projects also include films with directors Venkat Prabhu and Nanda Kishore, as well as collaborations with producers Kalaipuli S Thanu and Lyca Productions.

Akhil’s Agent gets an OTT release date (Telugu)

The makers of the Akhil Akkineni starrer Agent announced that the film will be streaming on SonyLiv from May 19th. The spy-thriller is directed by Surender Reddy and also stars Mammootty, Dino Morea and Sakshi Vaidya in lead roles. Written by Vakkantham Vamsi, the film features cinematography by Rasool Ellore, editing by Naveen Nooli and music by HipHop Tamizha. The film opened to negative reviews and disappointing box office numbers on April 28th.

Trailer of Jackson Bazaar Youth out (Malayalam)

The trailer of Shamal Sulaiman's quirky action comedy Jackson Bazaar Youth was released this week. The film, which co-stars Lukman Avaran, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki, Chinnu Chandni, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Fahim Safar, and Anagha Ashok, follows the lives of bandmates of the titular band, who get embroiled in a world of crime. The film has music by Govind Vasantha.

Naga Chaitanya's Custody gets a trailer (Telugu)

The makers of Naga Chaitanya’s bilingual Custody recently released the official trailer of the film. The action film sees Naga Chaitanya play a cop who is protecting the antagonist played by Arvind Swamy from the rest of the police officers. The film also stars Krithi Shetty and R Sarathkumar in lead roles.

Written and directed by Venkat Prabhu, the film is shot both in Tamil and Telugu. While Custody marks Prabhu’s debut in the Telugu industry, it also marks Chaitanya’s debut in the Tamil industry. The makers have said that the film will be an out and out action entertainer. With music by Ilaiyaraja and Yuvan Shankar Raja, and cinematography by SR Kathir, Custody is all set to release on May 12th.

Shruthi Hassan joins the cast of Nani30 (Telugu)

The cast and crew of Nani’s next film have been filming in Goa. Tentatively titled Nani30, the film is said to be a drama that features Nani as a single father. While Mrunal Thakur plays the female lead, the makers have announced that Shruthi Hassan has joined the sets. She is said to play a pivotal role in the film. Directed by Shoryuv, the film is produced by Mohan Cherukuri and Dr. Vijender Reddy Teegala under Vyra Entertainments. The film has music by Hesham Abdul Wahab. It is set to release on December 21st.

Location scouting and recce begins for Mohanlal’s Empuran (Malayalam)

The follow-up to the Prithviraj Sukumaran directorial Lucifer has been in the works for some time. Titled L2:Empuran, the Mohanlal starrer is in the pre-production stage. Recently, the producer of the film Antony Perumbavoor released a video, announcing that the location recce for the film is underway.

The Mohanlal starrer Lucifer was a political action film which featured an ensemble cast of Tovino Thomas, Vivek Oberoi, Manju Warrier and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Ever since the sequel was announced, the ambitious project has been the source of excitement for many fans. While Prithviraj has a lineup of yet-to-be released films such as Aadujeevitham, Salaar and Vilayath Buddha, Mohanlal will be next seen in Lijo Jose Pellishery’s Malaikottai Valiban.

Mathew Thomas’ Neymar gets a trailer (Malayalam)

The makers of the Mathew Thomas starrer Neymar have released a trailer for the film. The comedy features Thomas and Naslen K Gaffoor in lead roles. It is directed by Sudhi Maddison and is written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skariah. Produced by Padma Uday under the V Cinemas International Banner, the film has cinematography by Alby Anthony.

Promo song from 'Madhura Manohara Moham' out (Malayalam)

A promo song of Stephy Zaviour's 'Madhura Manohara Moham' was recently released. The song is written by Suhail Koya, and is composed and sung by Jibin Gopal. The promo song is directed by the popular dancer Ramzan. Touted to be a comedy entertainer, the film stars Rajisha Vijayan, Saiju Kurup, and Sharafudheen. It is scheduled to hit the theatres on May 19.
