Here’s a recap of the significant stories in entertainment across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada films, and sometimes the odd television series as well.

BoyapatiRAPO gets a new release date (Telugu)

The makers of blockbuster filmmaker Boyapati Srinu’s next action entertainer recently revealed the film’s release date. Tentatively titled BoyapatiRAPO, the action film is all set to release on September 15. The announcement came with a poster which sees lead actor Ram Pothineni wearing a traditional shirt and lungi in a farmland setting and on sipping coffee.

The film will be the director’s first collaboration with actor Ram Pothineni. It also features Sreeleela. Produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under the Sirinivasaa Silver Screen banner, it is presented by Zee Studios and Pavan Kumar. Thaman scores the music for the film while Tammiraju and Santhosh Detake serve as the editor and cinematographer respectively. The film is set to release in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

The first-look of Thalapathy Vijay's Leo out

The first look of Vijay from his upcoming film Leo is out. It features Vijay welding a bloodied sledgehammer with a wolf behind him in the jungle. Sharing the poster on their social media handle, the makers captioned the poster, You hear me now. “Leo Leo Leo Leo Leo Leo First Look.”

The poster has lines written on it, “In the world of untamed rivers, calm waters either become divine gods or dreaded demons.” The makers of the Lokesh Kanagaraj film also released its first single in Vijay's voice on June 22, marking the screen icon's birthday.

Nikhil Siddhartha’s Spy gets a trailer (Telugu)

The makers of Nikhil Siddhartha’s next film Spy recently released the trailer of the film. The central theme of the film is based around freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose and a terrorist in possession of a confidential document which is of national importance. The action thriller also stars Ishwarya Menon, Aryan Rajesh, Sanya Thakur, Makrand Deshpande and Ravi Varma among others. The trailer also revealed that Rana Daggubati will be seen in a special appearance.

Spy is directed by Gary BH, who also serves as the editor of the film. K Rajashekar Ready also receives a story credit while producing the action thriller under the banner ED Entertainments. Vamshi Patchipulusu and Mark David serve as the cinematographers while Vishal Chandrashekar and Sricharan Pakala compose the music. The film is all set to release on June 29.

Kajal Aggarwal announces her 60th film Satyabhama (Telugu)

The makers of the Kajal Aggarwal starrer Satyabhama recently released the title teaser of the film. The teaser shows Kajal as a no-nonsense police officer who does not hesitate to beat up goons and get a confession. The teaser does not reveal any plot details or any of the other primary cast members.

Directed by Akhil Degala, the film is produced by Bobby Tikka and Srinivas Rao Takkalapally under the Aurum Arts banner. This will be their maiden production. Sricharan Pakala composes the score. The rest of the crew's details are yet to be revealed. Satyabhama will be Kajal Aggarwal’s 60th film.

Shivarajkumar wraps filming for Captain Miller (Tamil)

The team of Captain Miller recently revealed that Kannada star Dr.Shivarajkumar has completed his portions in the period action film. Director Arun Matheswaran took to social media to appreciate the actor and give a send-off. Captain Miller will be the actor’s second Tamil film of the year, his debut being the Rajinikanth starrer Jailer.

Captain Miller is a period action film set during the pre-independence era. It stars Dhanush in the lead role along with Shivarajkumar, Priyanka Mohan, Sundeep Kishan, Niveditha Sathish, John Kokken and Daniel Balaji.

R Madhavan’s Test wraps filming (Tamil)

Actor R Madhavan recently took to social media to announce that the shoot of his next film Test has been wrapped. The sports-drama is the directorial debut of producer Sasikanth and also stars Nayanthara and Siddharth. Sasikanth produced the film under his own Y Not Studios banner. Filming began in April where the team released a motion poster along with details about the cast and crew.

Manju Warrier signs her third Tamil film named Mr.X (Tamil)

Malayalam actor Manju Warrier has signed up for third Tamil film. After having starring roles in Asuran and this year’s Thunivu, the actor has signed on for a project titled Mr.X. The makers of the film announced her inclusion through a poster on social media. The film stars Arya and Gautham Karthik is said to be an action thriller.

Mr.X is directed by Manu Anand of FIR fame and is produced by Prince Pictures. It is supposed to go on floors in June and the technical crew consists of Dhibu Ninan Thomas as the music composer, Tanveer Mir as the cinematographer and Prasanna GK as the editor.

Jagapathi Babu’s Rudrangi gets a release date (Telugu)

The makers of Jagapathi Babu’s film Rudrangi recently announced the release date of the film. The period action film is all set to release on July 7. Centred around the social conditions of Telangana, the film is directed by Ajay Samrat. The film also stars Ashish Gandhi, Mamta Mohandas and Vimala Raman.

KGF fame Karthik Gowda bags distribution rights for Valatty - A tale of tails (Malayalam)

Valatty, the experimental feature film with an all-canine cast, will now be distributed by Karthik Gowda of KRG Studios outside Kerala. The distributor who is known for Kannada films such as the KGF series, Kantara and Ratnan Prapancha announced that he would be distributing the feel-good adventure film in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu, collaborating with prominent producer Dil Raju on the latter. The film will be distributed by Anil Thadani in Hindi and by Home Screen Entertainment in the overseas market.

Valatty-A Tale of Tails is directed by debutant Devan and is presented by Vijay Babu. Friday Film House handles the production of the film, which features prominent Malayalam actors such as Roshan Mathew, Indrans, Soubin Shahir, Sunny Wayne and Saiju Kurup as the voice behind the dogs. The film centres around a group of pet dogs who go on an adventure. The film is set to release on July 14.

Makers of King of Kotha reveal character posters (Malayalam)

King of Kotha, a crime thriller starring Dulquer Salman recently got a motion poster that revealed the characters of the film. The promo shows Shabbeer Kallarakal, known for his role as Dancing Rose in Sarpatta Parambarai plays a prominent role in the film. Other cast members introduced in the video include Aishwarya Lekshmi, Prasanna, Nyla Usha, Chemban Vinod Jose, Gokul Suresh, Shammi Thilakan, Shanthi Krishna, Vada Chennai Saran and Anika Surendran.

The crime thriller is said to be one of Dulquer Salman’s biggest projects, with the actor revealing that the film was his most physically draining project till date. It is directed by Abhilash Joshiy, the son of prominent director Joshiy and is produced by Zee Studios and Wayfarer Films. Jakes Bejoy and Shaan Rahman have composed the music for the film.

Tovino wraps filming for Anveshippin Kandethum (Malayalam)

After the rousing success of the survival drama 2018, Tovino Thomas currently has multiple films in the pipeline. While films such as Ajayante Randam Moshanam and Nadigar Thilagam are currently in production, the actor announced on his social media handles that filming for Anveshippin Kandethum has been wrapped.

The investigative thriller will see Tovino play a cop. Directed by Darwin Kuriakose, the film is written by Jinu V Abraham, known for writing Prithviraj’s Kaduva. The film has Girish Gangadharan cranking the camera while Santhosh Narayanan has composed the music. Adhya Prasad, Siddique, Indrans, Jaffer Idukki and Alencier Ley Lopez also star in the film.

RDX gets its first look (Malayalam)

The makers of the action film RDX: Robert Dony Xavier recently released the first look poster of the film. The poster shows the main characters Shane Nigam, Anthony Verghese and Neeraj Madhav in a warrior stance, donning an 80s inspired look in a village fair setting. A burning giant wheel fills the frame in the background as there are hints of a gang approaching the trio.

RDX is directed by Nahas Hidayath who co-writes the film with Shabas Rasheed and Adarsh Sukumaran. Sophia Paul of Minnal Murali fame produces the film under the Weekend Blockbusters banner. Sam CS and Alex J Pulickal handle the music and cinematography respectively. The film also stars Lal, Maala Parvathi, Mahima Nambiar and Baiju. The film is set to release during Onam, expecting a clash with Dulquer Salman’s King of Kotha.

Prajwal Devaraj stars in the pan-Indian film Jathara (Kannada)

Prajwal Devaraj recently announced that he will be starring in his first pan-Indian film Jathara. The commercial entertainer is directed by Uday Nandanavanam. The film is currently in pre-production stage and is expected to start shooting in August, with the makers aiming for a Sankranthi release next year.

Jathara is written by Vasudev Reddy, with prominent dialogue writer Masthi penning the Kannada dialogues for the film. Bheems Ceciroleo of Ravanasura and Bengal Tiger fame will be composing music for the film. Sai Ram and Harish Komme will be serving as the cinematographer and editor respectively.

Sharan and Amrutha Iyengar unite for a dark comedy (Kannada)

Actor Sharan is currently shooting for a new dark comedy, which recently wrapped its first schedule in Bagalkot. The film, which is being directed by Aravind Kuplikar of Puksatte Lifeu will see Sharan collaborate with Amrutha Iyengar for the first time. The film is tentatively titled Production No.53 and is backed by Yogesh Dwarkish, who announced the project via his social media handle. The film also stars Achutha and Rangayana Raghu.

Aditya and Ranjani Raghavan unite for a thriller (Kannada)

Actor Aditya, known for starring in films such as Edegaarike, Deadly Soma and Adi, is all set to star in a thriller project. Directed by debutant Kishore Megalamane, the film also stars prominent serial actor Ranjani Raghavan. While the film is yet to be titled, it is currently in the shooting stage. The film also features Karisubbu, Ashwin Hassan and Shivamani. Aditya was last seen in the action film Munduvareda Adhyaya. Apart from the untitled thriller, he will next be seen in 5D and the gangster drama Terror, where he will be playing the antagonist.
