Rishab Shetty’s Kantara: Chapter 1 gets sold to Amazon Prime Video as a post-theatrical release (Kannada)

The makers of the socio-fantasy film Kantara: Chapter 1 announced that the film would be released on Prime Video after its theatrical release. The announcement came on Amazon Prime’s ‘Are you ready’ event, where multiple releases from across languages were announced. Kantara: Chapter 1 is the only Kannada film in the slate.

Kantara: Chapter 1 is written and directed by Rishab Shetty, who also stars in the film. Set to be a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara, the film is backed by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner. While no announcements have been made yet, Sapta Sagaradache Ello star Rukmini Vasanth has been rumored to have joined the cast.

Ravichandran’s Premaloka 2 to begin shooting soon (Kannada)

Actor-director-producer Ravichandran’s Premaloka became an instant classic when it was released in 1987. The film starred Ravichandran and Juhi Chawla in lead roles. Now, the actor is all set to make its sequel, with his sons Manoranjan and Vikram joining the cast. 

The filmmaker also mentioned that he would be composing for Premaloka 2 and the album would consist of 25 songs. Ravichandran revealed on a reality TV show that he would begin filming for the project in May.

Yuva Rajkumar’s Yuva gets a trailer (Kannada)

The grandson of Dr. Rajkumar and the son of Raghvendra Rajkumar, Yuva Rajkumar is all set to make his big screen debut with Yuva. The makers of the film recently released the official trailer, which shows Yuva as a rebellious student who has been a cause of concern for the college authorities as he instigates a gang war on the premises. The trailer shows the trajectory of the character as he goes from being a prominent figure at his college to being a food delivery person. It also explores his relationship with his father.

Yuva is written and directed by Santhosh Ananddram, who previously helmed Raghavendra Stores and Yuvarathna. The film is backed by Vijay Kiragandur under the Hombale Films banner. B Ajaneesh Loknath handles the music while Shreesha Kuduvalli handles the cinematography. Sapthami Gowda, Sudharani, Gopalkirshna Deshpande, and Achyuth Kumar also star in the film. Yuva is set to be released on March 29.

Sathish Ninasam’s Matinee gets a release date (Kannada)

Actor Sathish Ninasam is all set to star in his next film Matinee. The Lucia star will be sharing the screen with Rachita Ram in the film, which is set to be a romantic thriller. The duo had previously collaborated on the film Ayogya. The makers of the film also announced that it would be released on April 5.

Matinee is written and directed by Manohar Kaampalli. The film also stars Shivraj KR Pete and Nagabhushan in pivotal roles. It has music by Poornachandra Tejaswi and cinematography by Kranthi Varla.

Chiranjeevi’s Vishwambara wraps first schedule in Hyderabad (Telugu)

Chiranjeevi is currently filming for the high-concept mythological film Vishwambara. The makers of the film announced that the team had finished filming some pivotal scenes in Hyderabad. Scenes involving Chiranjeevi and lead actress Trisha were also reportedly filmed. Trisha posted a picture of her along with Chiranjeevi and music director MM Keeravani.

Vishwambara is directed by Vassishta and is backed by Vikram, Vamsi, and Pramod under the UV Creations banner. MM Keeravani handles the music while Chota K Naidu cranks the camera. The film is set to be released on January 10, 2025.

Ram Charan’s RC16 has been launched (Telugu)

Ram Charan’s next project RC16 was officially launched earlier this week. Said to be a sports drama, the film is directed by Buchi Babu Sana of Uppena fame. The formal puja ceremony was attended by lead actress Jahnvi Kapoor, Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi, Boney Kapoor, Sukumar, and Allu Aravind. Chiranjeevi reportedly did the first clap while Allu Aravind handed over the script to the team.

RC16 is directed by Buchi Babu Sana and is backed by Venkata Satish Kilaru under the Vridhhi Cinema banner. Rathnavelu handles the cinematography for the film while AR Rahman composes the music.

Amazon Prime Video’s Telugu film slate includes films from Ram Charan, Vijay Deverakonda, and Pawan Kalyan (Telugu)

Amazon Prime Video recently held its yearly ‘Are you ready’ event which announced its slate of films, series, and documentary releases for the year. Originals such as The Rana Connection, Uppu Kappu Rambu, Cheekati Lo, and Arabi Kadali will be streaming on Prime Video. The streaming giant has also acquired many large-scale films as part of their slate of post-theatrical releases.

Ram Charan’s film with Shankar Game Changer has been acquired by Prime Video. Pawan Kalyan’s Ustaad Bhagath Singh and Hari Hara Veera Mallu will also see their post-theatrical OTT release on Prime Video. The Vijay Devarakonda starrer Family Star as well as Nithiin’s Thammudu will see a release on the OTT platform.

Dhanush headlines biopic on musical maestro Ilaiyaraaja (Tamil)

Dhanush is set to take on the role of musical maestro Ilaiyaraja in the much-awaited biopic. Titled Ilaiyaraaja, the makers of the film recently announced the biopic with a poster, showing Dhanush in character entering an old Madras with bags in hand. The tagline of the film says, ‘The King of Music’.

Ilaiyaraaja is directed by Arun Matheswaran, who recently collaborated with Dhanush on the period action film Captain Miller. Nirav Shah handles the cinematography.

Suriya’s Kanguva gets a new teaser (Tamil)

The makers of Suriya’s next film Kanguva released a teaser. Titled the ‘Sizzle Teaser’, the video shows glimpses of the tribe that Suriya leads. Much like the title teaser, the setting is a foggy jungle, showing the tribe’s rituals. Hints of an inquisition from the mainland are shown with ships braving storms to attack the tribe. The inquisition seems to be led by Bobby Deol, who plays a character called Perumaachi. The final shot of the teaser shows an epic clash between Perumachi and Kanguva.

Kanguva is written and directed by Siva, who last helmed the Rajinikanth starrer Annaatthe. The film is backed by KE Gnanavel Raja under the Studio Green banner along with V Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati under the UV Creations banner. The film also stars Disha Patani, Jagapathi Babu, Yogi Babu, and KS Ravikumar among others.

Pushkar Gayathri's Suzhal - The Vortex gets a second season (Tamil)

Amazon Prime Video India’s ‘Are You Ready’ event announced multiple projects that were in the pipeline for the streaming giant. One of the announcements was the renewal of the thriller series Suzhal - The Vortex.

The second season sees the return of Kathir as Sakkarai and Aishwarya Rajesh as Nandini. Pushkar-Gayathri mentioned that the second season of the show was in the last leg of filming. The first season of Suzhal - The Vortex followed the story of a union leader in a town in the Nilgiris district, whose daughter goes missing during the auspicious Angalamman festival. R Parthiba, Sriya Reddy, Kathir, Aishwarya Rajesh, and Harish Utthaman starred in the first season.

Lokesh Kanagaraj and Shruti Haasan star in the music video of Inimel (Tamil)

The makers of the upcoming music video Inimel released a short glimpse. The glimpse video sees Lokesh Kanagaraj and Shruti Haasan playing a couple.

Inimel is composed and conceptualized by Shruti Haasan, with Kamal Haasan writing the lyrics. The video is directed by Dwarkesh Prabhakar with cinematography by Bhuvan Gowda. Kanagaraj's regular collaborator editor Philomin Raj will also join the project. Kamal Haasan and R Mahendran produce the music video under the RKFI banner. The video is set to be released on March 25.

Vineeth Sreenivasan’s Varshangalkku Shesham gets a trailer (Malayalam)

The makers of Vineeth Sreenivasan’s period drama Varshangalkku Shesham released the official trailer of the film. It sees Dhyan Sreenivasan and Pranav Mohanlal as two aspiring artists who move from their theater background to the Tamil film industry with a story.

Varshangalkku Shesham is written and directed by Vineeth Sreenivasan and is backed by Visakh Subramaniam under the Merryland Cinemas banner. The film has an ensemble cast that includes Pranav Mohanlal, Dhyan Sreenivasan, Kalyani Priyadarshan, Aju Varghese, Basil Joseph, Neeta Pillai, and Shaan Rahman. Amrit Ramnath handles the music while Viswajith Odukkathil handles the cinematography. The film will be released on April 11.

Nivin Pauly’s Malayalee From India gets a release date (Malayalam)

The makers of the Nivin Pauly starrer Malayalee From India announced that the film would be released on May 1. The comedy also stars Dhyan Sreenivasan and Anaswara Rajan and is directed by Dijo Jose Antony, who helmed the Prithviraj Sukumaran starrer Jana Gana Mana. The film is written by Sharis Mohammed, who collaborated with Jose Antony in his previous films.

Mammootty’s Bazooka wraps up filming (Malayalam)

Mammootty’s upcoming action entertainer Bazooka has reportedly wrapped filming after 90 days of shoot. The makers took to social media to announce the end of production. The film is written and directed by Deeno Dennis, who makes his directorial debut. Mammootty stars along with Gautham Vasudev Menon in the film, which is backed by Dolwin Kuriakose and Jinu V Abraham under the Theater of Dreams banner, in association with Yoodlee Films.

Aashiq Abu’s Rifle Club begins filming (Malayalam)

Filmmaker Aashiq Abu’s next film Rifle Club officially went on floors earlier this week. The film stars Dileesh Pothan, Vani Vishwanath, and Hindi actor Anurag Kashyap in his Malayalam debut. Rifle Club’s technical team consists of Rex Vijayan as the music director and Abu as the cinematographer himself. Manjummel Boys’ Ajayan Challissery handles the production design. Syam Pushkaran, Dileesh Nair, Suhas, and Sharfu handle the writing of the film.
