The 1960 Muslim social was set in Lucknow, and to convey the poetry of the land, Guru Dutt roped in a lyricist from not so far away – Shakeel Badayuni. Creating some wonderful ghazals and qawwalis out of Badayuni's words was composer Ravi, also working with Dutt for the first time after Dutt parted ways with S D Burman. And it was Badayuni and Ravi's work on the musical front that became one of the prime reasons for the movie's success.

Best Song of Chaudhvin Ka Chand: Shakeel Badayuni produced some spectacular romantic metaphors to describe the leading lady (quite fitting, given how Waheeda Rehman looked) in the title track that Ravi wrapped in a sublime melody and orchestration. And with Rafi sounding his soulful best singing the tune, it is little surprise that Chaudhvin Ka Chaand Ho is among the most acclaimed love songs ever.
