Movie Details Of Aar Paar

Music: O P Nayyar

Lyrics: Majrooh Sultanpuri

Label: Saregama HMV

Director: Guru Dutt

A three-movie old OP Nayyar had his first brush with success with this 1954 hit directed by and starring Guru Dutt. Featuring the brilliant Geeta Dutt in most of the tracks (barring the one Shamshad Begum song), the album was a complete entertainer, marking the early days of the vibrant soundscape which would become hallmark of the composer. Also in its nascent stage was the composer's partnership with ace lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri, one that would again go on to become quite a formidable one in years to come.

Best Song Of Aar Paar: While Babuji Dheere Chalna is an amazing song on all counts, the fact that it was inspired off Osvaldo Farres' Quizas Quizas makes me give the best song title to what is musically a sort of companion piece to BabujiHoon Abhi Main Jawaan. The orchestration once again carries the Latino flavour, highlighted by the spectacular accordion like in Babuji. Geeta Dutt's languid rendition of Sultanpuri's incredible lines captures inebriation and sensuality in equal measure.
