Composer Jaidev's national award winning soundtrack for the 1978 movie had a rather esoteric sound, featuring ghazals and traditional classical/folk pieces. It was the ghazal tracks that lent the soundtrack its cult status though, particularly Seene Mein Jalan, the protagonist's quibbles about the city of Bombay beautifully penned by Shahryar and sung by Suresh Wadkar. Another of the tracks, Aapki Yaad Aati Rahi, won its singer Chhaya Ganguly a national award as well.

Best Song of Gaman: Despite Seene Mein Jalan's popularity and Aapki Yaad's award, the most significant track of the album for me is Ajeeb Saaneha as it marks the playback debut of one of my favourite singers, Hariharan. Given the singer's expertise in the genre, Hariharan had little difficulty nailing the hauntingly melodic ghazal that was again written by Shahryar.
