Director: Vikramaditya Motwane

Just like our entry from two days back, director Vikramaditya Motwane's sophomore film, Lootera had its setting in yesteryear West Bengal. Here it was Amit Trivedi and Amitabh Bhattacharya – another prolific composer-lyricist combo of recent times – behind the songs. The soundtrack, while harking back on occasion to the team's previous work for the director (Udaan), also did some delightful incorporation of Bengali folk sounds and paid homage to the bygone era of Bollywood.

Best Song of Lootera: Manmarziyaan was my favourite song from Lootera right from the first time I heard it; four years later my allegiance remains unchanged. It is hard not to fall in love with the traditional folk style melody (rendered flawlessly by Shilpa Rao), or the sublime arrangement the composer sets it to.

The Lootera Playlist:

  1. Sawaar Loon (Singer: Monali Thakur)
  2. Ankahee (Singer: Amitabh Bhattacharya)
  3. Shikayatein (Singers: Amitabh Bhattacharya, K Mohan)
