Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap's home in stacked with thousands of DVDs of his favourite filmmakers. We took a peek into his collection and asked him to pick the movies that were most dear to him. "A lot of movies that I collect are to do screenings because these films are very hard to get. Most OTT platforms are so driven by profit, that there's some great cinema that is not there. So for me, its very important that the films stay in some kind of a physical form and that they're there for generations to watch," explains Kashyap.

Samuel Fuller

I have all his films and a boxset of his very rare movies just came out. Samuel Fuller is a noir filmmaker who has also made some extremely controversial movies that were blacklisted in Hollywood. He also wrote one book which officially got published only last year, many years after his death.

Fritz Lang

He's my go-to filmmaker. I'm slowly replacing his DVDs with the Blu-Ray version of his films. You'll see his films and you'll realise all the cinema that we see today, from Marvel to the big mainstream movies, somewhere they always go back to him… everything, all the Nolan, the Finchers, it all goes back to Fritz Lang. He's the man who has defined cinema for us.

Jean-Pierre Melville

All his work is available all on Blu-Ray. Jean-Pierre Melville has made the best thrillers and chase films. Uski kafi saare films hain jo kisine chura liye.

Kinji Fukasaku's Battles Without Honour And Humanity: The Yakuza Papers

These are five films that will help you understand the whole Japanese crime history. It talks about this whole style of filmmaking that influenced all the Bourne movies and Paul Greengrass. When you see a lot of indie filmmakers making thrillers, it all goes back to him and The Yakuza Papers.

Akira Kurosawa

I would recommend his early films which I think people don't know. You have to see Kurosawa's early films, before the world discovered him. And this is available in Criterion. It's a whole different Kurosawa that you haven't seen and its all here.
