An action-thriller and sports-drama clashed at the box office this week.

This Eid, Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff kicked up an action storm on our big screens with Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (BMCM), which features South superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran as the villain. Though it received middling reviews, BMCM has raked in adequate numbers at the box office so far.

As per a report by Sacnilk Entertainment, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan grossed Rs. 15.65 crore at the Indian box office on its opening day. While these are not the most impressive figures, they make BMCM the second-highest opener of 2024, right behind the other action bonanza from earlier this year, Fighter (2024). It has also inched past the opening day collection of Shaitaan (2024), Ajay Devgn’s hit horror flick that came out last month.

Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’s main competition this week is Maidaan (2024), which stars Devgn in the lead role. Directed by Amit Sharma, the film tells the story of the coach who pioneered the ‘Golden Era’ of Indian football. Although it came out one day before BMCM, the sports-drama has only managed to pull in Rs. 7.10 crore so far, despite being better received by critics.

This is not the first time Devgn and Shroff Jr. have clashed at the Eid box office. The former’s Runway 34 (2022) and the latter’s Heropanti 2 (2022) released on the same day. Both were box office flubs, although the Heropanti sequel performed slightly better than Devgn’s directorial venture.
