A family drama written and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, The Great Indian Family follows the story of Bhajan Kumar (played by Vicky Kaushal), and his struggle with his identity after receiving a letter which discloses that he was actually born a Muslim.

The Great Indian Family's box office collection has been a major letdown. Sacnilk Entertainment's early reports reveal that the film only made Rs. 1.4 crore on Friday, Rs. 1.72 crore on Saturday, and just Rs. 2 crore on Sunday.

According to Sacnilk, the Vicky Kaushal film has only made a meagre Rs. 5.12 crore domestically over the weekend. Predictions for Monday show a further dip in numbers — the film is expected to earn only Rs. 0.75 crore today.

Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi told Film Companion, “Not every film has the firepower or the intrinsic audience to go wide enough. Having said that, a lot of these actors like Vicky Kaushal and a whole lot of others in his generation are very good actors. But in terms of their box office draw they're generally as good or bad as the film they're in.”

“This is in no way taking away anything from his popularity or his abilities as an actor which I think are truly terrific,” Rathi said, “But The Great Indian Family has not really taken an opening that has much to write home about especially if you measure it and its business over the weekend for Vicky Kaushal's very last film which was Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023),” said Rathi.

Kaushal’s last release Zara Hatke Zara Bachke made over Rs. 5 crores on its opening day and about Rs. 23 crores on its opening weekend. Compared to that, The Great Indian Family has had a dramatically slow start.
