Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma play the titular characters in Jab Harry Met Sejal directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film takes us across Europe on Harry and Sejal's search for the latter's misplaced engagement ring. The film's tagline – what you seek is seeking you – hints at a journey of self-discovery the characters embark on.
Shah Rukh (Harry) plays the role of 'a tour guide who is lost,' while Sejal (Anushka) is 'a woman in need of guidance.' Anushka, plays Sejal Parikh, a Gujarati from Mumbai, who speaks with a heavy accent while Shah Rukh is Harinder Singh Nehra, a Punjabi tour guide living in Europe. Many Imtiaz Ali's films like Highway (2014) and Tamasha (2015) have travel as a primary motif.
In a fresh approach to film marketing, the makers of Jab Harry Met Sejal decided to launch five 'mini-trails' as well as four songs – Radha, Beech Beech Mein, Safar and Butterfly before the trailer. At the trailer launch event in Mumbai, director Imtiaz Ali spoke about working with the superstar and said that he is the "most giving" to his co-stars in terms of commitment and enthusiasm. Anushka, who made her debut opposite the star in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), agreed, saying, "Shah Rukh has always been so caring and committed to whatever he is doing despite his injuries. It's commendable for a star of his stature."
