Directed by Raj Mehta and starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi, Selfiee explores the rivalry between a Bollywood star and an RTO (Regional Transport Office) officer. It is based on the 2019 Malayalam film, Driving Licence. The Hindi remake was released on February 24 and according to Bollywood Hungama, it earned Rs 2.55 crore on its opening day. On the day after, it made Rs 3.80 crore. Selfiee was the only big-budget Bollywood release last week and according to the Indian Express, it had the worst opening for an Akshay Kumar film in over a decade.

Previously, Kumar’s Ram Setu (2022) collected Rs 15.25 crore on its opening day, and Rs 55.48 crore by the end of its first weekend, reported Bollywood Hungama. The actor’s next, Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat, is a Marathi language film set to come out on November 9. It will see him in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

Selfiee has done worse than this month’s last major Hindi release, Shehzada, which hit the screens along with Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. According to Box Office India, the Kartik Aaryan starrer earned Rs 5.75 crore on its first day and Rs 6.50 crore on the second.
