The theaters might be shut, with big releases like Toofaan, Thalaivi, and Jagame Thandiram postponed indefinitely. But this week was a streaming bumper crop, populated by movies which had their theatrical release earlier, before the second wave of the COVID-19 virus shut all theaters after a brief reprieve.

Here is a list of all the exciting movies that dropped this week, earning raves and praise.

1) Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar on Amazon Prime Video

Dibakar Banerjee's film starring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor, which had a slim theatrical release, was lauded by the critics. It intersects the path of Pinkesh "Pinky" Dahiya, a Haryanavi Police Officer and Sandeep Kaur, a bigshot in the corporate world.

2) Dithee On SonyLIV

The astute late Marathi filmmaker Sumitra Bhave's last film, Dithee, starring Amruta Subhash tells the story of an ironsmith reconciling with the grief after the passing of their son.

3) Kala on Amazon Prime Video

A man VS man film where both represent the wild, this Tovino Thomas starrer set around an areca plantation in Kerala is a visual and visceral violent ballet.

4) Aarkkariyam on Amazon Prime Video

Starring Biju Menon, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Sharafudheen, this mystery drama closely tracks the disarray that follows the COVID-19 lockdown.

5) Operation Java on Zee5

This is a charming thriller, where two friends Antony George (Balu Varghese) and Vinay Dasan (Lukman Avaran) try to find employment with the Kochi Cyber Cell by helping them solve crimes, each with increasing stakes, from piracy to murder.

6) Another Round on Amazon Prime Video

The Danish comedy-drama about gymnasium school teachers, including Mads Mikkelsen's character, disillusioned with life, was the toast of the awards season. At the 93rd Academy Awards, it won for Best International Feature Film and was also nominated for Best Director. It also won BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language and European Film Award for Best Film, and was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
