Disney+ Hotstar Announces Its Upcoming Slate Of 18 Titles

From Ajay Devgn's OTT debut in Rudra to the return of Sushmita Sen's Aarya, there's a lot to watch out for on Disney+ Hotstar over the coming months

Disney+ Hotstar, on Tuesday, announced its latest slate of films and shows to be released exclusively on the platform.

In a virtual press conference hosted by Sunil Grover, Sunil Rayan, President & Head, Disney+ Hotstar and Gaurav Banerjee, President & Head (English and Hindi entertainment), Star India, along with several stars from their upcoming slate – including Ajay Devgn, Siddharth, Pratik Gandhi, Shabana Azmi, Shefali Shah and Richa Chadda, among others – were in attendance.

Starting September 1, subscribers would have a choice between three new annual subscription plans: Mobile – costing Rs. 499 (a single-device, mobile only plan), Super – costing Rs. 899 (upto two devices across mediums), and Premium – for Rs. 1499 (upto four devices across mediums). It was further announced that all Disney+ Hotstar subscribers – irrespective of their preferred plan – will now be able to have an access to the Disney+ Originals library. This will comprise a range of highly-anticipated television shows and Hollywood films, including Cruella, Black Widow and The Mandalorian.

In addition to its recent releases like Hungama 2 and Collar Bomb, the streaming platform announced 16 upcoming titles – including the return of Sushmita Sen's well-received Aarya – alongside forthcoming films like Ajay Devgn's Bhuj: The Pride Of India and Saif Ali Khan-starrer Bhoot Police.

Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness

Starring Ajay Devgn and Esha Deol in their OTT debuts, the crime-drama will be an Indian adaptation of the British series, Luther.

The Empire

Nikkhil Advani's historical fiction is based on Alex Rutherford's series of novels, called Empire of Moghul. Focusing on the rise and fall of the Mughal Empire – from Babur to Aurangzeb – the series stars Kunal Kapoor, Shabana Azmi, Drashti Dhami and Dino Morea, among others.

Aarya: Season 2

After a successful season one, Sushmita Sen returns with the second season of Aarya. Co-created by Ram Madhvani and Sandeep Modi, the series revolves around the titular character, a loving mother turned mafia queen.

Fear 1.0

The supernatural thriller stars Tisca Chopra, Saurabh Shukla and Rajesh Tailang as the central characters.

Human

Starring Kirti Kulhari as a doctor and Shefali Shah in a grey character or, in her words, a character she has 'never heard or seen before,' the series will focus on the underbelly of the medical world. The medical drama, written by Mozez Singh, Ishani Banerjee, Stuti Nair and Aasif Moyal, is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah.

Those Pricey Thakur Girls

Based on Anuja Chandra's book of the same name, the romantic comedy stars Akshay Oberoi, Saher Bamba, Raj Babbar and Poonam Dhillon. The plot revolves around a family of seven, with five feisty daughters.

Gharshana

Starring Naveen Chandra, Sarath Kumar and Jagapathi Babu, the Telugu web-series is a political crime drama. Co-produced by Arka Mediaworks, the show will mark Sarath Kumar's digital debut.

My Perfect Husband

The Tamil-language series, starring Sathyaraj, Seetha and Aajeedh Khalique, among others, focuses on a tight-knit family and the challenges that surround them, threatening their lives to take a turn for the worse.

Six Suspects

An adaptation of Vikas Swarup's novel of the same name, the show is a murder mystery directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia and co-produced by Ajay Devgn and Priti Sinha. It marks the return of Scam 1992's breakthrough star Pratik Gandhi, who will star alongside Richa Chadda and Ashutosh Rana.

Family Matters

Yet another mystery-thriller from the platform's bank, the whodunit stars Murali Sharma, Nandu, Akshara Gowda and Sonia Agarwal in central roles.

The Legend Of Hanuman 2

The Indian animated series on Lord Hanuman and his journey from a warrior to a God will return with its second season soon. Created by Sharad Devarajan, Jeevan J. Kang and Charuvi Agrawal, the show – whose first season premiered in January 2021 – is produced by Graphic India.

Dance +

The popular dance reality show, spearheaded by choreographer Remo D'Souza, will be back with new talent, powerful performances and staying true to its name, a lot of dance.

Escaype Live

Touted to be a tech-thriller, the series includes Siddharth, Javed Jaffrey and Ritvik Sahore in pivotal roles. Co-directed by Siddharth Kumar Tewary (creator of shows like Star Plus' Mahabharat and Navya) and Abhishek Sengupta, the show is produced under Tewary's banner, One Life Studios.

Criminal Justice: Season 3

After the first two seasons, Pankaj Tripathi's Madhav Mishra is set to return with a new case and several mysteries yet to be unfolded.

Special Ops 1.5

Universes are the new deal, aren't they? Part of the one-of-its kind 'Special Ops Universe', where multiple characters, stories and seasons will co-exist within a universe in a multi-series format, this Kay Kay Menon-starrer is an espionage thriller. Created by Neeraj Pandey, the series is produced by Shital Bhatia.

City Of Dreams: Season 2

The latest season of Nagesh Kukunoor's political thriller is set to release on July 30th. It stars Priya Bapat, Atul Kulkarni, Sachin Pilgaonkar, Sushant Singh and Eijaz Khan, among others.

Bhuj: The Pride Of India

Abhishek Dudhaiya's war drama film, scheduled to release on August 13, comprises Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Nora Fatehi in pivotal roles. Set during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971, the story revolves around how 300 Gujarati women helped the Indian Airforce reconstruct the IAF airbase.

Bhoot Police

The horror-comedy, directed by Pavan Kirpalani and produced by Ramesh Taurani and Akshai Puri, is slated for a September 17 release. The star cast includes Saif Ali Khan, Arjun Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez and Yami Gautam.
