The makers of the Kamal Haasan's blockbuster Vettaiyadu Vilaiyaadu announced that the film would be re-releasing in theatres on June 23. The new release is supposed to be a remastered version of the film. The crime drama follows DCP Raghavan, played by Haasan, who is in search of a serial killer who kidnaps and murders women in New York. The film had neo-noir themes on the lines of director Gautam Vasudev Menon’s popular cop drama, Kaakha Kaakha.

Vettaiyadu Vilaiyadu was lauded upon release for its realistic depiction of a police procedural story as well as giving a matured romance to the lead pair of Kamal and Jyothika. It was also appreciated for delving into the antagonists’ psychology. The technical aspects of the film including Ravi Varman’s cinematography and Anthony’s editing were also appreciated. Harris Jayaraj’s music coupled with Thamarai’s lyrics topped the charts upon release, continuing their winning streak with the director.

The re-release is presented by Manickam Narayan, who produced the film under the Seventh Channel Communications banner while YMR Creations are handling the release along with KM Sundaram Pictures. The re-release comes on the heels of Kamal Haasan’s blockbuster action film Vikram, which recently celebrated its first anniversary.
