In an interview with the Times of India, director Anubhuti Kashyap spoke about the casting of her film Doctor G starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Shefali Shah, Sheeba Chaddha and Rakulpreet Singh, Kashyap said, "When we wrote the film, we knew it's an Ayushmann film. Even the comments on trailer read, 'Oh, he's back to his genre.' The film has Ayushmann written all over it."
Talking about Shah and Chaddha, the director continued, "Later, (after seeing Shefali Shah's subsequent rise) we were like 'Wow!' We've put our bets in the right person. She is amazing. With her, you are in such safe hands. She puts in a lot of prep in understanding the character. She did multiple rounds of readings with me, basically going through all the scenes to flush out any doubts. She had suggestions on how the character should be, we had discussed it out way before, in 2020. After that, I didn't have to do anything, just 2-3 rounds of technical sessions with her, with a doctor, to understand how to conduct herself, do surgeries and work around instruments. I didn't have to do any work on her. Everything was brought to the character by her and she brought whatever I could have asked for and way more than that! It was just fantastic, the kind of spin she gave to the character. She makes it so effortless. She doesn't have to speak strongly to come across as a strong woman. She just says words so softly and naturally and smoothly, but you still get terrified when she comes on screen. She brings that to the table."
