Warner Bros Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced a live-action series based on JK Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books during a presentation on Wednesday. The show will air on Max, a streaming service formerly known as HBO Max, which has now been merged with Discovery+.

"The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that fans have loved for over 25 years," read a statement from the streaming platform. It added that the show would be produced with the "same epic craft, love and care" as the original franchise.

Rowling, Neil Blair and Ruth Kenley-Letts will executive produce the series. "Max's commitment to preserving the integrity of the books is important to me," read a statement from the author. "I'm looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series."
