Bangladeshi filmmaker Nuhash Humayun made history when his horror short film, Moshari, won the Atlanta Film Festival Jury Prize, allowing it to qualify for the 95th Academy Awards. Moshari is the first Bangladeshi film to ever do so. The film is now set to have Oscar-winners Jordan Peele and Riz Ahmed as its executive producers.

Moshari is a riveting exploration of the climate crisis and its role in human tragedies. The 20-minute short stars National-award-winning actress Sunerah Binte Kamal and Humayun's niece Nairah Onora Saif as two sisters trying to survive a post-apocalyptic world caused by mysterious blood-sucking creatures. The film blends the siblings’ fraught relationship with the dangers that lurk outside their “moshari” or mosquito net.

According to Variety, Peele and Ahmed will EP through their respective production companies, Monkeypaw Productions and Left Handed Films. Joining them as executive producers are Monkeypaw president Win Rosenfeld; SVP of development and production, Dana Gills and Left Handed Films SVP and head of television, Allie Moore. The production houses have spoken highly of the short film – calling it “a terrifying and novel take on what a monster movie can be” – and have shared their enthusiasm for being a part of Humayun’s work.

Moshari already has a bunch of prestigious accolades under its belt, including SXSW Jury Award and awards from Fantasia, HollyShorts and Melbourne festivals. Humayun has written, directed, produced and edited the film.
