Filmmaker, writer and composer Vishal Bhardwaj has reunited with his muse Tabu in Khufiya. Speaking at a recent event organised by Netflix, the director quipped that whenever he starts thinking of a new film, he wonders how he can include  Tabu in it. The actor has played key roles in Bharadwaj's previous films, like Maqbool (2003) and Haider (2014).

After releasing the teaser of Khufiya at a Netflix event, Bharadwaj said, "Working on films that explore people, characters, conflicts and relationships is something I truly enjoy. Khufiya is a really special project for me. The entire team has worked very hard to create a suspenseful slow-burning thriller and with Netflix we are thrilled to present the film to audiences globally."

Khufiya is based on the novel Escape to Nowhere, written by the former Research & Analysis Wing (R&AW) officer, Amar Bhushan, who headed up the agency's  counter espionage unit. The film's protagonist is R&AW operative, Krishna Mehra, who is assigned a crucial mission which requires her to juggle her dual identity as a spy and a lover.

"As an actor, I have always wanted to be a part of different stories and narratives," said Tabu. "With the character that I play in Netflix's Khufiya, I have been extremely fortunate to explore a very distinct story." She added, "Working with VB [Vishal Bhardwaj] is always a pleasure and a very rewarding experience. We're excited to work with Netflix and bring the film to entertainment lovers across the world."

Khufiya also stars Ali Fazal, who'll be seen in the next season of Mirzapur; Wamiqa Gabbi of Modern Love Mumbai fame; and Ashish Vidyarthi.
