Pa. Ranjith, who has used his directorial voice to great effect in anti-caste films such as Madras, Kabali and Kaala, returns to the big screen after a gap of two years. The writer-director has teamed up with Arya for Sarpatta Parambarai, a film based on boxing. The Tamil movie co-stars Dushara Vijayan and Ranjith regular Kalaiyarasan.
The first-look poster for Sarpatta features Arya in a slightly bruised avatar — he's been hit on the face. But, his chiseled physique will certainly raise more than a few eyebrows. After a mildly well-received Magamuni and a disastrous box-office outing in Kaappaan, Arya must be looking forward to this feature.
Along with the first-look poster, Pa. Ranjith adds, on Twitter, that opportunities do not come to people who belong to the backward communities easily (hinted, and not explicitly stated).
In 2018, in Vetri Maaran's Vada Chennai, Dhanush played Anbu, a man adept at carrom. The shoot for the Pa. Ranjith venture, with Santhosh Narayan anchoring the music department, is underway. It's expected to hit theatres next year.
