The trailer of Welcome to New York says that it features Diljit Dosanjh, Sonakshi Sinha, Karan Johar, Boman Irani, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh. It also adds Sushant Singh Rajput to the list. But that's akin the claim that Irrfan Khan had a major role in Himesh Reshammiya's The Xposé(2014) or the makers of Roy(2015) going overboard with the publicity of Ranbir Kapoor's cameo in their film.

Welcome to New York's protagonists are Dosanjh and Sinha, who play an actor and fashion designer respectively. They are winners of a talent contest and have won an invite to an IIFA type Bollywood award ceremony in New York. There they keep bumping into stars and riff on the real personalities of these characters: Dosanjh tells Johar that everyone in Punjab has started drinking coffee instead of lassi; Johar has a double role. Dosanjh also mistakes Rajput as MS Dhoni and tells him that he begrudges him for not bringing Yuvraj Singh up the batting order in the World Cup final. The audience is expected to laugh, we wanted to turn off the video.

Produced by Vashu Bhagnani's Pooja Films and directed by Chakri Toleti, who has made films such as Unnaipol Oruvan(2009), the Tamil remake of A Wednesday(2008), and Billa 2(2012), Welcome to New York promises to be, at best, a poor man's Om Shanti Om(2007).  It releases on February 23.
