In this interview with Baradwaj Rangan, Santhosh Narayanan talks about the DJ Snake remix of 'Enjoy Enjaami' and why it's such an important thing for the Tamil indie music scene. DJ Snake is a French record producer who has worked with major artists including Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez. His remix of 'Enjoy Enjaami' is out now on Spotify. Edited Excerpts…

An unexpected offshoot of 'Enjoy Enjaami' is that DJ Snake is remixing it…

Yeah, as funny as it might sound, we didn't know anything about DJ Snake. We knew all about his music, of course, but we didn't know that he could be contacted through someone. He's a serious legend and has done so many great and popular tracks with big artists like Selena Gomez.

Dhee was, I think, absent from social media, but she posted something about 'Enjoy Enjaami' on Instagram. DJ Snake identified her and commented on our work. That's how we got in touch. We always knew that if DJ Snake remixed a track it would be a big hit in all the clubs. That was his reputation in our minds. Our track would be played all over the world and it was a surreal moment when Spotify and DJ Snake's team confirmed that they were remixing 'Enjoy Enjaami'. To keep this information to ourselves was the biggest challenge. We couldn't tell anyone because anything could happen during the pandemic. We didn't want people to feel bad later by announcing it earlier.

But we couldn't wait to share the news and I'm personally very excited. Generally, I get very excited by collaborations. I want to collaborate with everyone. It's a huge door opening for the independent music scene, at least in Tamil Nadu and India. Amazing folk musicians have performed in the song. And it's so nice that many big artists the world love the kind of sound that India and Tamil Nadu are producing. They have great respect for the folk form. They are crazy about gaana. There are some very big names who told me that they love it. So, I cannot wait to have huge collaborations, working with people from across the world.

It's going to be fun. And I hope that everyone stays healthy in these torrid times we're living in. But there are some great prospects for the future.

When it the remix releasing?

It's ready and releasing on June 21, on World Music Day.
