Former actress and now author Twinkle Khanna recently released her new book Pyjamas Are Forgiving (Juggernaut books), her third after Mrs Funnybones and The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad. After beginning her tryst with writing as a columnist, Khanna has only gone from strength to strength as a writer. We recently asked her if she was comfortable being labelled India's Highest Selling 'Woman' Author.
"Well, at least I'm doing well. I've still not been able to break the number the men are raking up. I don't know whether it is a gender thing but at one point I will. This has got nothing to do with the numbers but I was reading an interview with an author and he said he gets up at 6 in the morning, then he does pooja, reads the newspapers, then he goes to his study and starts writing – and this man has written many bestsellers. And I was thinking, I want what he has, which is not talent, but a wife. Obviously there's some woman running around getting the kids to school while he's reading these four newspapers. I don't have that time! I'm not saying we're not hitting the numbers because of that but it's just one of the disparities of being a different gender," she says.
