Prithviraj Sukumaran Shares An Update On The Filming of Mohanlal's L2: Empuraan

The Mohanlal-starrer completed its first schedule in Ladakh; its second schedule will be shot extensively in the UK

Prithviraj Sukumaran has been quite busy for the last few months, setting up the groundwork for his most awaited directorial project, Empuraan (2024), which has already completed its first schedule of shoot in Ladakh and New Delhi. The film, touted to be the most expensive Malayalam film made to date, is currently in the last leg of its set work, which is happening in different parts of the country. The big budget action spectacle starring Mohanlal, reprising his role from the original film Lucifer (2019), has been shot across many locations like Manali, New Delhi, Dubai, London and USA, with some key scenes being shot in Kochi, Kerala. 

The team has been quietly working away at multiple sets for the project and Prithviraj shared the latest update from the new sets to be built in Kochi for the subsequent schedules. Prithviraj  took to his social media pages to share the behind the scenes pictures of the team working on the expansive sets with the caption,“ #L2E - Empuraan. The next set build begins today! “ The film bankrolled by Aashirvad Cinemas in association with Lyca Productions is said to be an adventure set across different parts of the world and will serve as a prequel to the events from Lucifer and setup the past of Stephen Nedumpally aka Khureshi-Ab'raam, the enigmatic gangster played by Mohanlal in the original.

Empuraan will also feature Prithviraj Sukumaran,Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Indrajith Sukumaran, Alexx O'Nell and Baiju Santhosh, along with a handful of surprise casting choices, not revealed by the team as of now. The sequel is also written by Murali Gopy and lensed by Sujith Vaasudev. Akhilesh Mohan handles the editing,while Deepak Dev is in charge of the original score. The team of Empuraan is eyeing a release towards the second half of 2024.
