During the FC Front Row with Prithviraj Sukumaran, the actor explained how the titular character in a biopic is played differently depending upon the story. Talking about Ranveer Singh’s 2021 film 83, biopic on Cricketer and Former Indian captain Kapil Dev, the actor analysed Singh’s performance in the film and called it a ‘brilliant job’.
“When you do a 1983 [movie], when Ranveer [Singh] did Kapil, I think he was very intelligent about it. I have seen remarks about Ranveer’s performance being an imitation in terms of his body language, I don't think there was any other way to play it,” Sukumaran said while in conversation with Anupama Chopra.
“I think Ranveer did a brilliant job because we we all know Kapil Dev sir, we all know how he speaks, we all know his bowling actions, we all know how he bats, we all know the man, we all know how his hair looks like, so if Ranveer had decided to bring his own interpretation of who Kapil Dev is it would have been a problem,” the actor concluded.
83 is directed by Kabir Khan and also starred Deepika Padukone, who played Dev’s wife Romi Dev’s character onscreen. The film also stars Pankaj Tripathi, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Saqib Salem among others.
Meanwhile, Sukumaran will next be seen in The Goat Life directed by Blessy and music is composed by A. R Rahman. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on March 28.
