It’s official. Ranveer Singh is the new Don, carrying forward the legacy of an iconic character played previously by Amitabh Bachchan in Don (1978), and Shah Rukh Khan in Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011). Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar who will be directing Don 3 shared a video on his social media page announcing Singh as the new Don.
The video opens with the actor’s back to the camera as he sits in a room of a high-rise building with glass walls. He then walks towards the glass and lights a cigarette. After a long build-up, with a voiceover that recreates a popular dialogue from the previous films, the camera reveals Singh, who introduces himself as Don.
Sharing the video on his social media pages, Akhtar wrote, “A New Era Begins #Don3.” Akhtar will be directing the film and co-producing it with Ritesh Sidhwani. Akhtar had been teasing the announcement of Singh as the new Don for the past two days now.
After posting a short teaser with just the theme music and the number 3, Akhtar shared a statement on his social media page where he credited his father Javed Akhtar and his former writing partner Salim Khan with first creating the character of Don. Akhtar then added that a new actor whose talent and versatility he admires will be carrying the legacy of Don forward.
The video mentions the year 2025, but the makers are yet to confirm if this is the year Don 3 will release or if filming will begin with Singh as the new Don.
