Prime Video has announced a new four-part docu-series on the struggles and subsequent success of Punjabi rapper, singer and record producer Amritpal Singh Dhillon, better known as AP Dhillon

Announcing the series AP Dhillon: First of a Kind on their Twitter page, the streaming platform shared a video of Dhillon singing as a young man and captioned their post, “You know his music but not the man. This was AP Dhillon’s last night in India before he made the career-defining move to Canada. With big dreams to achieve, little did he know about the challenges ahead, from cultural differences to language barriers. But he moved past every obstacle to become the raging success he is today! His life and his struggles have always been a mystery to his fans. Until now! AP Dhillon’s journey to fame in the docuseries - ‘AP Dhillon: First Of A Kind’ on Prime Video, out on 18 August!”

The unscripted series is directed by Jay Ahmed and produced by PASSION Pictures in association with Wild Sheep Content and Run-Up Records. With exclusive access to the singer, the series traces his journey from Gurdaspur, Punjab to British Columbia, Canada where Dhillon is now based. Using Dhillon’s own account of his journey and interviews with his close friends and family members, the series will take viewers deep into Dhillon’s life and follow him as he undertakes a global expedition both on and off stage.

Speaking about the series, Aparna Purohit, Head of India Originals, Prime Video said, “Stories of triumph and success will always find resonance among viewers, and AP Dhillon’s journey to self-made superstardom is one that is intriguing and inspiring. AP Dhillon: First of a Kind is the first-ever docuseries to dive into the dynamic world of Punjabi hip-hop and explore the origins of one the most prominent faces of the musical zeitgeist we’re currently witnessing.”

AP Dhillon: First of a Kind is an Amazon Original series that will premiere in India and 240 other nations on August 18.
