Sharmila Tagore and Rituparna Sengupta will share screenspace in National Award-winning director Suman Ghosh's film Puraton. The film marks Tagore's return to Bengali cinema after a gap of 14 years.
Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), trade analyst Taran Adarsh announced the project and wrote, “SHARMILA TAGORE – RITUPARNA SENGUPTA TO STAR IN MOTHER – DAUGHTER STORY… In a casting coup of sorts, #SharmilaTagore and #Bengali superstar #RituparnaSengupta – both powerhouse of talent – will feature in an emotional mother-daughter story, penned by #NationalAward winning director #SumanGhosh"
Puraton is an emotionally charged story that revolves the relationship between a mother and daughter. In addition to Tagore and Sengupta, the film will also feature Indraneil Sengupta who plays the character of the son-in-law. The film is being produced under Sengupta's banner, Bhavna Aaj O Kal and will release in 2024.
