After years of speculation, prominent Tamil actor Vijay has finally and officially announced his entry into politics. The actor, who was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj's Leo, made this announcement with a lengthy statement on social media. He added that the current political climate is marred with corruption and malpractice on one hand and divisiveness that separates people based on religion and caste. The actor, however, made it clear that he would not be contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and would instead use this time to prepare and "politicise" his cadres for the 2026 Assembly State elections.
Functionaries from his fan association, Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam (TVMI), were reportedly in New Delhi earlier today to begin initiation work for formally registering his political party. The actor also added that he doesn't consider politics a mere occupation, but a service to the people. Vijay, who is currently filming Venkat Prabhu's The Greatest of All Time for his 68th movie, revealed that he would completely involve himself in politics once he finishes his film commitments.
