Mohan Raja is returning with a sequel to Thani Oruvan (2015) eight years after the release of the original film. Thani Oruvan 2 (2024) will have Jayam Ravi and Nayanthara reprising their lead roles. The team released a short announcement video for the film featuring Jayam Ravi and director Mohan Raja. In the first part, Ravi’s Mithran IPS goes in search of a criminal and destroys him. The creatively designed promo shows that the plot is reversed in the sequel. “The enemy will come looking for you,” director Raja says to Mithran. While Arvind Swami played the antagonist in the first part, his character was murdered towards the end of the film. So, the promo leaves the audience curiously waiting to know more about the villain's role.
Thani Oruvan 2 will feature music by Sam C S, who is replacing Hip Hop Tamizha, whose score for the first instalment added to the film’s overall appeal. The cinematography will be handled by Nirav Shah whereas the editing for the sequel will be done by R Vasanthkumar. Bankrolled by AGS Entertainment, Mohan Raja, who has helmed other films like Godfather (2022) and Velaikkaran (2017), is penning the screenplay and the film will enter production in the first half of 2024.
