The National Film Award-winning director, known for his kinetic, raw oeuvre of cinema, has revolutionised Kollywood’s action. Not unlike his peer Pa Ranjith, Vetrimaaran, too, uses cinema as a tool to explore various forms of societal oppression, but all the while, he remains entrenched in the commercial film space. In Asuran, an action drama with his frequent collaborator Dhanush, the director told a story of retribution and rage, and in his most recent Viduthalai: Part 1 came a powerful human drama revolving around an honest cop coping with a separatist group raising voice for the persecuted.
