All directors who have directed at least one theatrical film or OTT series/film, with footfalls/viewership of 1 million or more in India, from January 2019 to December 2023. The Power List is not a ranking and is arranged in alphabetical order.
Audience Size: Average footfalls/viewership of all properties directed by the director in the time period (2019-23).
Audience Likeability: Average Ormax Power Rating (OPR) of all properties directed by the director in the time period (2019-23).
Audience Appeal: Equity Score in Ormax’s Director’s Equity Survey, which measures the Appeal of each director, i.e., their ability to get audiences to theatres on their own accord.
ROI (Theatrical only): Average % profit vis-à-vis cost of production and release, of all theatrical films directed by the director in the time period (2019-23)
On each of the four parameters, eligible directors will be scored. Directors who feature in the top 25 on at least one parameter were shortlisted for further analysis.
Among these shortlisted directors, rank points were assigned. For example, if the shortlist has 52 directors, the top-ranking director on any parameter were assigned 52 points, no. 2 director 51 points, and so on, with the no. 52 director being assigned 1 point.
For the fourth parameter, since all directors in the shortlist had not directed a theatrical film, only the relevant directors were assigned points. For example, if out of the 52 directors, 44 have directed theatrical films, they were assigned points from 52 (top rank) to 9 (44th rank).
For each director, points were averaged across the parameters on which they have been ranked (4 parameters for theatrical directors, 3 parameters for others). This means that all four parameters will be given equal weightage. This cumulative ranking was used to identify the Top 25 as the power list.
