In the age of Coronavirus quarantines, lockdowns and self-isolation, many more of us are relying on streaming platforms in search of distraction, escape and just plain entertainment. Luckily August certainly doesn't look to disappoint with an exciting new set of streaming releases offering a wide range of stories. It's raining documentaries on Netflix, covering everything from adorable animals to controversial athletes. It also appears to be the month of Bobby Deol, making his streaming debut with releases on both Netflix and MX Player. From Amazon Prime Video's latest Indian original to the return of Lucifer, here are our picks of what's releasing this month across platforms.

Netflix

Class Of 83

When: TBC

Bobby Deol stars as a cop who decides to punish the corrupt bureaucracy and its criminal allies by training five lethal assassin policemen. 

Masaba Masaba

When: TBC

This scripted series is based on real-life moments from Masaba Gupta's life and follows her unique background, the diverse worlds she straddles across fashion and family, and her foray back into the dating world. 

Immigration Nation

When: August 3rd

A documentary series which offers a unique view of the ongoing struggles in America's broken immigration system.

Sam Jay 3: In The Morning

When: August 4th

In her Netflix Comedy Special debut, Sam Jay discusses navigating her sexuality, the complexities of traveling with her significant other, and why it's always necessary to lock the door while showering.

World's Most Wanted

When: August 5th

Netflix's latest docuseries profiles some of the world's most heinous criminals who have avoided capture despite massive rewards and global investigations. 

Anelka: Misunderstood 

When: August 5th

 Famed French footballer Nicolas Anelka's controversial legacy is examined in this tell-all documentary.

Tiny Creatures

When: August 7th

A docu-series that magnifies some of the world's smallest wildlife, and finds what's big isn't always better.

Yet another docu-series, this one taking a deep dive into the lucrative wellness industry, and all the myths it's based on. 

Gunjan Saxena

When: August 12th 

Netflix's first Bollywood big bet is a biopic starring Janhvi Kapoor as Flight Lieutenant Gunjan Saxena who made history as India's first female combat pilot in the Kargil War.

Project Power 

When: August 14th

On the streets of New Orleans, word begins to spread about a mysterious new pill that unlocks superpowers unique to each user. The catch: You don't know what will happen until you take it. Netflix's latest fantasy action bonanza stars Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Lucifer: Season 5

When: August 21st

The final season of the hit Netflix series sees everyone's favourite devil back for more mischief. 

Bandish Bandits

When: August 4th

Amazon Prime Video's latest Indian original takes us into the world of music. Radhe is a singing prodigy, Tamanna is a rising pop sensation. Their world is turned upside down when they fall in love. With a soundtrack from Shankar Ehsaan Loy and a cast that includes Naseeruddin Shah, this one certainly has our attention. 

Killing Eve: Season 1-3

When: August 7th 

All three seasons of the hit BBC show from Phoebe Waller Bridge finally make their way into a streaming platform. Killing Eve centers on a bored MI5 security officer who becomes infatuated with a talented killer. The show topples the expectations of a typical spy-action thriller as these two women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse.

Bloodshot

When: August 12th 

Hollywood's latest superhero-esque story stars Vin Diesel as Ray Garrison, a soldier recently killed in action and brought back to life as the superhero Bloodshot by the RST corporation.  With an army of nanotechnology in his veins, he's an unstoppable force–stronger than ever and able to heal instantly. 

World's Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji

When: August 14th

From the creator of Survivor, 66 teams descend upon Fiji to compete in the most epic global adventure race ever attempted.

Ramy Season 2

When: August 14th

The critically acclaimed comedy series following Egyptian-American Ramy's spiritual journey in his politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood, returns for a second season. This time Ramy is joined by none other than Mahershala Ali to guide him through the trials of life. 

Chemical Hearts

When: August 21st

Young adult love stories seem to be all the rage these days. Chemical Hearts is a coming of age love story involving a hopeless romantic and a young woman with a mysterious past.

The One And Only Ivan 

When: August 14th

 An adaptation of the award-winning book about one very special gorilla, Disney's latest original film tells a tale about the beauty of friendship, the power of visualization and the significance of the place one calls home. Starring Bryan Cranston and others. 

Spies In Disguise

When: August 8th

In this high-flying animated comedy, super spy Lance Sterling (Will Smith) and scientist Walter Beckett (Tom Holland) are the unlikely duo who must team up for the ultimate mission to save the world. 

Underwater

When: 14th August

Kristen Stewart leads a crew of underwater researchers who scramble to safety after an earthquake devastates their deep-sea laboratory. But the crew has more than the ocean's depths to fear… *ominous music*

Phineas & Ferb The Movie: Candace Against the Universe

When: August 28th

The hit Disney show returns for a feature-length film which centres on Phineas and Ferb as  they set  out across the galaxy to rescue Candace after she's abducted by aliens.

Lovecraft Country

When: August 17th

Based on Matt Ruff 's novel of the same name, Lovecraft Country follows Atticus Freeman as he meets up with his friends to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America in search of his missing father.

Sony LIV

World on Fire

When: August 14th

World On Fire is a piercing drama telling the story of World War II through the lives of ordinary people from all sides of this global conflict.

Indebted

When: August 21st

Young parents Dave and Rebecca are ready to reclaim their life after years of diapers and sleepless nights. However, things take an unexpected turn when Dave's parents show up unannounced and broke.

The Gone Game

When: August 7th

Another 'home-made' web series, shot entirely from the confines of the artists' homes, The Gone Game follows the Gujral family. Tragedy strikes after their son is declared dead due to the virus, but the question remains if there is more to it than meets the eye. The series offers a promising cast including Sanjay Kapoor, Arjun Mathur, Shriya Pilgaonkar and Shweta Tripathi Sharma, among others.

Love Fraud

When: August 30th

The four-part docu-series follows the search for one man, Richard Scott Smith, who over the past 20 years used the internet and his dubious charms to prey upon unsuspecting women looking for love — conning them out of their money and dignity.

Boys State

The winner of the Grand Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, Boys State is a wildly entertaining and insightful look at the week-long annual program in which a thousand Texas high school seniors gather for an elaborate mock exercise: building their own state government.

Churails

From acclaimed Pakistani director, Asim Abbasi, Churails narrates the story of four self-proclaimed 'churails' who come together to open a covert detective agency to expose cheating husbands amongst the city's elite. The wonderfully entertaining trailer entirely speaks for itself.

ABHAY 2

When: August 14th

The ZEE5 crime thriller starring Kunal Khemu returns.  The 8-episode series once again follows officer Abhay Pratap Singh and his attempts to understand the criminal psyche.

Mee Raqsam

When: August 21st

Naseeruddin Shah, Danish Husain and Aditi Subedi star in a a family drama which revolves around a young girl from a small village who dreams of becoming a dancer.

Danny

When: August 1st 

The Tamil murder mystery follows a police inspector who takes the help of Danny, a smart police dog, to unearth a gang of dangerous criminals. It's a buddy cop comedy…with a dog.

MX Player

When: August 28th 

Little is known about MX Player's curious new series from Prakash Jha, aside from the cast led by Bobby Deol, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Anupriya Goenka.

Dangerous

When: August 14th 

Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover star in a thriller full of betrayal, love, affairs, passion, deception, and rivalry.
