It all started with a dog. In John Wick (2014), a retired assassin (Keanu Reeves) was pulled back into a life of crime after Russian mobsters killed his dog and pushed him to fight for revenge. Now, four movies later, he’s fighting for himself, attempting to once again escape the life he tried so hard to leave behind. In John Wick: Chapter 4, the hitman who was left for dead in the previous film, begins seeking out old allies in his quest for freedom against the High Table, which has authority over all criminal organisations. Along the way, he will come up against the Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont (Bill Skarsgard), an emissary of the High Table who wants him dead. Wick might even find that he can't rely on some of his old allies, who have turned antagonistic. John Wick: Chapter 4 is set to start streaming from June 23 on Prime Video Channels with Lionsgate Play subscription. Here’s all you need to know about its new and returning characters:

John Wick (Keanu Reeves)

After being shot point-blank and falling off a rooftop in the previous film, John Wick: Parabellum (2019), the hitman has survived and is still being hunted by the High Table, a council of 12 crime lords. When John Wick: Chapter 4 begins, he’s hiding out underground and plotting his revenge.

Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont (Bill Skarsgard)

The French aristocrat is also an emissary of the High Table. This means that he has limitless resources, all of which he’s employing in the quest to eliminate not only John Wick, but also all the hitman’s allies. The Marquis aims to use Wick’s death as a bargaining chip to secure a better position for himself within the High Table. He is the main antagonist of John Wick: Chapter 4.

The Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne)

The Bowery King was introduced in John Wick: Chapter 2 (2017) as the head of an intelligence network run across New York, in which spies are disguised as homeless people. In John Wick: Parabellum, an assassin hired by the High Table slashed him across the face seven times as punishment for helping John Wick, leaving him for dead. Having survived, he’s since been providing Wick with shelter underground as they plot to take on the High Table.

Shimazu Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada)

The manager of the Osaka Continental Hotel first appears in John Wick: Chapter 4. Koji is a good friend of John Wick and an ally in his fight against the High Table.

Akira Koji (Rina Sawayama)

The concierge of the Osaka Continental Hotel, Akira is Shimazu Koji’s daughter and as skilled a fighter as he is. In John Wick: Chapter 4, she and her father disagree over whether to provide the assassin with shelter at the hotel. Despite Wick being a friend of her father’s, Akira fears retribution from the High Table for harbouring a fugitive.

Winston Scott (Ian McShane)

The manager of the Osaka Continent Hotel introduced in the first John Wick film, Scott was considered to be a longtime friend and ally of John Wick until serving as one of his antagonists in John Wick: Parabellum. He shot Wick several times at the end of the movie as a gesture of his loyalty to the High Table. The film left it ambiguous as to whether Scott meant to only save face in front of the High Table, instead strategically shooting Wick in his bulletproof vest, or whether he genuinely intended to kill the assassin. His betrayal was especially cruel given that Wick had refused to kill Scott earlier in the film.

Mr. Nobody (Shamier Anderson)

Introduced in John Wick: Chapter 4, the assassin is also a skilled bounty hunter, surprising John Wick with how easily he’s able to track him down several times over the course of the film. Motivated by profit, Mr. Nobody doesn’t kill Wick outright, instead waiting for the bounty on his head to rise high enough to justify taking him out.

Caine (Donnie Yen)

The visually impaired assassin, who first appears in John Wick: Chapter 4, is forced out of retirement by the High Table, which threatens to kill his daughter unless he assassinates John Wick. The only problem is that Wick is an old friend and ally to Caine, who is now caught between two tragic outcomes.
