Like director Amit Masurkar's National Award-winning 2017 film Newton, his follow-up Sherni also revolves around an honest government officer trying to do their best within a lopsided system. The film astutely captures two contrasting terrains — the jungles of Madhya Pradesh teeming with wildlife and the cobwebbed, lethargic interiors of a government office. Sherni features a terrific performance from Vidya Balan as reserved government officer Vidya Vincent, backed by stellar supporting performances from Brijendra Kala, Vijay Raaz, Neeraj Kabi and Ila Arun.
Produced by Masurkar, Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar and Vikram Malhotra, the screenplay has been written by Aastha Tiku, with dialogues by Masurkar and Yashasvi Mishra.
