Sushmita Sen returns as Aarya Sareen, a loving wife and mother forced by her circumstances to become a ruthless but fierce mafia queen. The trailer of Aarya Season 2 begins with a perplexed Aarya watching a video message from her late husband, Tej (Chandrachur Singh), who ominously foreshadows – and warns her of – turbulent times ahead.
Aarya's past seems to be catching up with her through the course of the trailer, as the woman returns to the home she had once left in a bid to regain some normalcy in her family's life after the events of Season 1. Taking it upon herself to 'sort things out' before her incoming troubles catch a whiff of her, she finds herself stuck in a loop of the syndicate tracking her down – and even locking her up and injuring her – to stop her at any cost. There's a point at which she feels she wouldn't survive unless she runs away.
However, as soon as she senses the danger expanding towards her family, she devises her own plan, trusting none but herself to protect them at all costs. At one point, she even questions her brother Sangram (Ankur Bhatia), suspecting him of treachery. From combat to shooting, she is seen doing it all, now more determined than ever before to stop at nothing before ensuring the happiness and safety of her children. In the final sequence of the trailer, she is seen emerging from a helicopter with a revolver in hand, aiming to shoot whoever is in her way. She's not a don, she's a mere working mother, she says.
Based on the Dutch drama series Penoza, the first season of the show marked the digital debut of Sen, who returned on-screen after a five-year hiatus. The series, and her performance, went on to receive unanimous acclaim as it went on to earn an International Emmy nomination for Best Drama.
Co-created by Ram Madhvani and Sandeep Modi, the series, also starring Sikandar Kher, Akash Khurana and Jayant Kripalani, among others, returns to DisneyPlus Hotstar on December 10th.
