The trailer for Bhangra Paa Le is here.
The film is the latest from Ronnie Screwvala's RSVP Movies which has had a strong year, with commercial successes like Uri: The Surgical Strike and critical darlings like Sonchiriya and Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota. As the title suggests, Bhangra Paa Le is a dance film – a genre we seem to have surprisingly few of outside of the ABCD franchise (the next instalment titled Street Dancer 3D is expected at the end of the year).
From debut director Sneha Taurani (daughter of producer Ramesh Taurani), the film follows Punjab-based bhangra troupes who enter a competition and look to make it to the finals in London. All the while, a young man (Sunny Kaushal) and a woman (Rukshar Dhillon) from rival college groups develop a budding romance; they have to decide what's more important, success or each other.
Bhangra Paa Le sees Sunny Kaushal (brother of Vicky Kaushal) in his first lead role after an impressive supporting turn in Reema Kagti's Gold. Across him is actress Dhillon, making her Hindi film debut after having appeared in a number of Telugu and Malayalam films.
While we are yet to see a dance film have compelling storytelling alongside the fancy moves, the trailer feels rather dull as neither the dance nor the story seems particularly engaging. We can only hope the film has a lot more to offer.
Bhangra Paa Le releases on November 1st.
