After last year's forgettable Penguin, starring Keerthi Suresh, Karthik Subbaraj's production will now be presenting Bhoomika, which is directed by Rathindran Prasad. Like Penguin, this film too is both set in the Nilgiris apart from it being led by a female star. The mood the trailer sets out to create too reminds one of Penguin.
But Bhoomika appears to be more of a horror film, with elements of a thriller. Given the first few lines of the trailer, it is also clear that nature plays a central role in the plot. It gives us an idea that the film is about nature's reply to man's environmentally irresponsible activities. The trailer does not reveal much except for the setting and a few characters. A crash, bodies of unknown people and a mysterious ghost-like figure only adds to the trailer's intrigue.
The setting also reminds one of Karthik Subbaraj's own film Mercury, starring Prabhu Deva, which was both a genre film apart from being a statement against environmental pollution.
The film is being written and directed by Rathindran R Prasad, who recently made the segment titled 'Inmai' in Mani Ratnam's Navarasa. Bhoomika was shot by Roberto Zazzara and the music is by Prithvi Chandrasekhar. The director had also made a fantasy film titled Idhu Vedhalam Sollum Kadhai, also starring Aishwarya Rajesh, but it hasn't been released yet.
Aishwarya Rajesh's most recent release was Thittam Irandu: Plan B, which was released directly on Sony Liv. Bhoomika also stars Vidhu and Paval Navageetham.
