Malayalam thriller Cold Case starring Prithviraj Sukumaran as a cop is streaming on Amazon Prime Video, skipping theatres. The trailer of the film dropped today and promises an investigative thriller with paranormal (horror?) elements, a bit along the lines of Anjaam Pathiraa and Forensic. The trailer even opens with a voice over that says: in this universe, illogical thoughts are more in number.

We get another voiceover as Prithviraj enters a crime scene. A man's voice says that he's 'verum paavam' and not someone serious, though the visuals appear to be contradicting that. Prithviraj's character ACP Sathyajith reports finding a mutilated human skull to the press. It looks like that's the case (or at least, a part of it) he is investigating.

ACP Sathyajith acknowledges that the killer is 'brilliant' and the head of the police force reckons that they've opened a Pandora's box by investigating the murder. As Aditi Balan's character says that she wants to solve a puzzle, it appears that solving the murder in the film is something like solving a puzzle.

There appear to be hints of horror or possession by spirits. We hear an eerie female voice before ACP Sathyajith asserts that the murder is a cold-blooded homicide, with the killer still at large. The trailer says "some secrets can't stay buried forever" and ends again on a slightly paranormal note with a visual of a kid staring at a scary-looking doll.

Cold Case stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Aditi Balan, Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, Alencier Lopez, Anil Nedumangad, Suchitra Pillai and Athmeeya Rajan. The film is directed by Tanu Balak who has worked as a cinematographer in films like The Train and Of The People, and produced by Anto Joseph Films and Plan J Studios.
