Dune is the story of Paul (Timothee Chalamet), heir to house Atreides and prophesied Kwisatz Haderach or Messiah. The trailer, however, opens with a voiceover from Chani (Zendaya), a native of the desert planet Arrakis and Paul's eventual true love. The two haven't met yet – Paul hasn't even journeyed to Arrakis – but Chani's been appearing in his dreams. She's a Fremen, one of the oppressed tribes of the planet, which is being plundered for its Spice – a chemical dust that increases lifespan and mental capacities. In telling Paul of the cruelty and oppression her people have faced, Chani foreshadows his heroic arc.

Paul's father, the Duke Leto (Oscar Isaac), is eventually asked to assume stewardship of Arrakis on the pretext of bringing peace to the planet. "There is no call we do not accept," he replies, well-aware that it's a trap and that House Harkonnen, led by Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgard), is plotting to kill his family. The houses eventually descend into all-out war while Paul struggles with his burgeoning powers and responsibilities to his House and family.

The film also stars Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa, Dave Bautista, Stephen McKinley Henderson and Chang Chen. Based on Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel, Dune is directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts and Eric Roth. It releases in theatres on October 22.
