Emraan Hashmi and Nikita Dutta star as husband and wife, grieving and dealing with an unfortunate miscarriage in the upcoming supernatural horror film, Dybbuk.

'Dybbuk,' as per Jewish mythology, is a box with an evil spirit, believed to be the dislocated soul of a dead person. This spirit, trapped in an antique box with Dutch inscriptions is discovered by Mahi (Dutta), who becomes keen on buying it while decorating the house she has recently moved in to. She ends up opening the box, setting the spirit free, soon after which she is haunted by vivid, scary visions. In the middle of this is her husband (Hashmi), who notices a change in her behaviour – she's quieter than before, as if lost in a trance. He then sets it upon himself to uncover the curse of the box – a 'dybbuk,' after being prompted by a priest. He reaches out for help, soon after which the spirit takes over their lives and their marriage, causing physical and emotional damage. Through a series of clips which lead to Hashmi's character tracing the origins of the ghost, it is revealed that the spirit won't rest till it destroys everyone involved.

Written and directed by Jay Krishnan, the film is a remake of the Malayalam supernatural-horror, Ezra (2017), starring Prithviraj Sukumaran, Priya Anand and Tovino Thomas. The Hindi version, also starring Manav Kaul, is set to stream on Amazon Prime Video from October 29.
