For viewers of a certain age, this clip will evoke severe pangs of nostalgia. The green Ambassador, typewriters, cassette tapes. Oh, those were innocent days indeed.
Trailers these days tend to be noisy affairs with slick sound effects, bump-and-grind club tunes or flashy dialogues. In that respect, Meri Pyaari Bindu – starring Parineeti Chopra and Ayushmann Khurrana – is a refreshing change of pace and unlike the typical Yash Raj Films fare.
The two main leads play Bindu and Abhimanyu, who bond in their childhood over samosas and chutney. Based on previous teasers and this trailer, it's clear that the friendship will blossom into love. Perhaps, as the grown up Abhimanyu (a writer) reveals, not for good.
Directed by Akshay Roy and produced by Maneesh Sharma (Band Baaja Baaraat, Shuddh Desi Romance), the film also features the vocal stylings of Parineeti. On the song "Maana Ke Hum Yaar Nahin", the actress, whose character is an aspiring singer, turns in a surprisingly silken playback performance.
Sharma has a dependable track record with love stories and if Roy is able to follow suit, Meri Pyaari Bindu – with its retro mood and atmosphere – might be the sleeper romantic charmer of the year.
