Taapsee Pannu, Vikrant Massey, and Harshvardhan Rane are the three corners of the love triangle in Haseen Dillruba. Rishu (Vikrant Massey) marries Rani (Taapsee Pannu), but he dies in a bomb blast. Rani is the prime suspect, especially given her affair with Neel (Harshvardhan Rane), the buff fuck-boy counterpart to Rishu's lean sincerity.
Part of the growing "chota sheher"-genre, this film is set in Haridwar, and uses the locations of river rafting and small town literature to prop its sense of place. The stylized lighting of red neons, and silhouettes has that trademark stamp of Netflix India.
Kanika Dhillon, the writer of Manmarziyan — another love triangle — Kedarnath, and Judgmentall Hai Kya?, has written this film, given prominent credits, unusual in Netflix trailers. Produced by T-Series, Colour Yellow Productions Pvt. Ltd, and directed by Vinil Mathew (Hassee Toh Phasee), the film premieres on Netflix on July 2.
