Balaji Telefilms has released the trailer of its upcoming comedy Jabariya Jodi.
Starring Sidharth Malhotra and Parineeti Chopra – two actors who really need a win – the Bihar-set film carries on Bollywood's current love for the small-town-comedy. Here the focus is on the issue of the forced-marriage and the groom-kidnapping industry.
Malhotra is Abhay Singh, a thug who abducts grooms for a living – a first for Malhotra playing a heartland-based character, stepping away from the urban image of his previous films. Parineeti Chopra is a prospective bride who falls for him and eventually finds tries to force him into marrying her. Jabariya Jodi marks the second film of the duo after 2014's charming Hasee Toh Phasee.
It would be interesting to see where the film stacks up against similarly-themed stories this year, such as Luka Chuppi which looked at live-in relationships and more so Made In Heaven which covered a wide spectrum of pressing marriage-related issues including forced marriage. As we've come to expect, the film also features a robust collection of supporting comedic talent to uplift the cast, including Sanjay Mishra, Gopal Datt, Aparshakti Khurana, Javed Jaffrey and more.
The film, which marks the feature film debut of Prashant Singh, graces our screens on 2nd August. You can watch the trailer here:
