The trailer of Suriya-starrer Jai Bhim, directed by Tha.Se.Gnanavel, was released today. While the teaser focused on Suriya's character, the trailer gives us more information. Confirming earlier reports that the film is set in the 1990s, it's about how senior lawyer K. Chandru, now a retired Madras High Court judge, spearheaded a legal battle for a woman belonging to a scheduled tribe community. We get several shots of court proceedings with Suriya's Chandru talking about the court's responsibility to deliver justice. But also, at the end of the trailer, he says: The law is just a weapon to fight for the innocent woman.

Rao Ramesh and Guru Somasundaram play lawyers arguing against Chandru. Prakash Raj plays a police officer. We only get glimpses of the tribal woman whose husband (Manikandan) appears to be a victim of police brutality: for example, a cop says "thiruttu pasangala tribals-nu solli politics pannadhenga. The trailer suggests that Jai Bhim could be a gritty courtroom drama with a strong political message. Curiously, the film has received an 'A' certificate.

Music for the film is by Sean Roldan and a single was released a few days back. Featuring Arivu's voice and lyrics, 'Power' is a rousing empowerment song. The song also features archival footage of Dr. BR Ambedkar saying, "We've been carrying on with untouchability for the last two thousand years. Nobody has bothered about it."

Editing and cinematography is by SR Kathir and Philomin Raj respectively. The film also features Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, Rajisha Vijayan, Manikandan and Lijomol Jose.

Jai Bhim is presented by Amazon Prime Video as a part of a four-film deal with Suriya's 2D Entertainment. Produced by Jyotika and Suriya, and co-produced by Rajsekar Karpoorasundarapandian, Jai Bhim will stream on Amazon Prime Video from November 2.
